Give your heart some love

February is all about love. And not just because of Valentine’s Day. February is also Heart Health Month. And one of the best ways you can show your heart some love is to eat healthy foods. Not sure where to start? The Healthy Lifestyles website has heart-friendly meal plans to help you get going. Here’s what you need to know:

You have options. The four-week meal plans are nutritionally balanced. They are designed to meet U.S. Dietary Guidelines at five different calorie levels – from 1,200 up to 2,000 calories a day. The plans include three meals a day as well as two snack options.

You can trust your heart to them. Whether you have heart disease or are working to prevent it, the recipes in the heart-healthy meal plan use ingredients that are low in saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium.

You have a roadmap. The meals, snacks and recipes are simple to prepare and use common, easy-to-find ingredients. In short, they take the guesswork out of planning heart-healthy meals.

For anyone who wants to take better care of their heart, these plans offer an easy (and tasty!) introduction. To find them, log in to Healthy Lifestyles and click on Recipes & Menus (under the Resources & Tools tab). Then scroll down to the Meal Plans section.
