Happy 2017! It’s hard to believe another year has come and gone. But if you’re like most of us – even us coaches – you’re ready for change. And a new year is a great time to hit the reset button and make a fresh start.
One of the hardest things about starting on a healthy new path is letting go of past attempts that didn’t work out. For example, if you committed to a healthy eating plan or an exercise program and didn’t stick with it, you may think you’ve failed. And you may be tempted to use that feeling of failure to not try again. But think about it this way: If you make a mistake at work, you don’t just quit. If your child makes a mistake, you don’t tell them to stop trying. We learn and grow from all of our experiences, good and bad.
So before you make your healthy resolutions this year, take some time to think about past experiences. What has worked best for you and brought you the most success? What stumbling blocks gave you trouble, and how can you work to avoid them in the future? And keep in mind that January isn’t the only time for fresh starts. Every day, every meal, every workout is a new opportunity to begin again.
We’ve included a lot of great advice in this month’s issue to help you start 2017 on the right foot, such as:
- A week’s worth of meal prep ideas for your weeknight dinners (including a complete shopping list).
- More coach tips on fitness, and answers to your most frequently asked exercise questions.
- More reasons why 2017 is your year to quit smoking, and how to make a plan to quit tobacco for good.
- Tips for creating a healthy workspace – including ways to fight those germs you can’t see (but are still there).
Cheers to a safe and healthy new year!
