Sticking with your fitness goals

Life is busy. And sometimes that means fitness takes a backseat. So how do people keep their fitness goals? Healthy Lifestyles members share a few things they have learned about how to keep fitness front and center:

  • Seize every fitness opportunity. Walk or bike when you need to go short distances. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park at the end of the parking lot. All these small actions add up to big changes.
  • Travel isn’t an excuse to skip exercise. Make use of the hotel gym or pool. Grab a map and go explore. Throw an exercise band in your bag so that you can do a quick workout in your room. And if you’re visiting a bigger city than your own, look for a fitness class that may not be available in your town.
  • Find an activity you love – whether it’s Crossfit, Zumba, tennis, hiking or even tap dancing. When you enjoy exercise, you’re more likely to stick with it. And don’t be afraid to try something new. The first class may be intimidating, but it’s worth it!
  • The benefits of exercise are more than just a stronger body or weight loss. Members report a major increase in energy, a more positive attitude and better sleep. Plus, they’ve found it’s easier to make healthy food choices when they’re staying active.
